LIVE Like Today Is The End, GROW Like You Will Live Forever

Live like today is the end, and Grow like you will live forever I am so grateful to be alive.   Take a minute – really take many minutes – and contemplate how truly incredible it is to simply exist.   Beyond the most insane blessing of simply existing; if your reading this your at a level of privilege that puts you in the top 1% of all those who have ever existed.   You are accessing just a tiny piece of an almost infinite amount of information and communication all made possible by living in 2017, you have access to resources and opportunities that even 30 years ago were sci-fi musings and 500 years ago you would have been burned at the stake for saying and thinking things that are very much common place and blasé today.   One of the privileges and blessings I am most grateful for is the access to information.   We can read the writings of Roman Emperors (translated into our language), a few key strokes later dive into cutting edge scientific research,...

High Tension Training For You!

Did you miss me?  I missed you, but I’m back with my next post and a commitment to post more consistently.   So last time we talked we discussed the concept of High Tension Training (HTT).  To refresh your mind here are the core principles of HTT: 1. During each repetition, contract your muscles as intensely as possible. 2. Move through the motion with as much control and fluidity as you possibly can. 3. When tension or form waiver end the set, rest adequately and attack the next set with perfect form and maximum tension.   We also addressed why this approach is so powerful and useful for maximizing outcomes - the minimum effective dose if you will.   So what are we discussing today?  Today we are jumping into a practical application of High Tension Training.  We are looking at what I do for physical training on a daily basis and how I think about and structure that training.  We will wrap up with how you can achieve your go...

Further Growth

The satisfaction we seek is found in the process of growth.  We grow when we have a compelling vision of where we are going and an effective strategy to get there.  I have been blessed to work with folks in pursuit of their growth and I would be honored to work with you.  To begin a conversation of how we might work together to express your innate excellence write to me at mattmcneill@aretemindset.com Peace and love, Matt

High Tension Training

Have you ever noticed that in life when you grow in a particular capacity this growth overflows into unrelated areas?  I can think of a few great examples in my own life, such as when I learn to love deeper and more sincerely in one relationship. That doesn’t just help that relationship - it overflows into every other relationship - but that is to be expected; I improved a skill and can now apply it to more situations.  What is cool about growing in love is that it transforms how you see your life and the world; it has the power to transform your entire mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.  I’ll give you another example of a transcendent skill, strength .  Physical strength translates to emotional and spiritual strength.  Becoming stronger means you have increased your capacity to change yourself and your environment - that literally is empowering in any direction you choose to take it! I want to share with you a few lessons I have learned which have real...

Are You Waiting Until Tomorrow To Be Happy?

I only ask because I caught myself in this trap.  Maybe you've been there too.  Have you ever looked down the road and thought, when I have/experience/am something then I’ll be happy?  Well this was me this morning, so let me share a couple details that will set up this story.  Fair game? I think cars are awesome and I've thought it for a long time.  Back in 4th grade  my buddy Ryan and I had a grand plan to get matching red Jeep Wranglers when we were older.  We could picture it vividly and talked about it in great detail.  Our Jeeps would have no doors on them, and we could drive them on the beach or into the woods where we would go camping.  When I was in 6th grade my buddy Jeremy and I watched The Italian Job and all we could imagine was having awesome Mini Coopers. Then came my first car, a two door Jeep Cherokee Sport, and this thing was awesome - thanks Grampy.  It had a 4L V6 rear wheel drive, and the back end was super ...

A Beautiful Journey

Hi y’all, Many of you know me, and some of you may not, but I figure lets lay a nice foundation of who I am and why I am sharing my life with you.  Fair game? I grew up in Medway Massachusetts, a town about an hour south-west of Boston.  I attended Fairfield University in Connecticut and graduated in 2013 with a BA in history.  I then pursued a master of art in education.  This privileged me to teach both high school and elementary school students in Connecticut.  Throughout this time I had the transformational experience of coaching athletes - high school, college, and adults – in the sport of rowing.  I am incredibly blessed to have had the opportunities to work with so many diverse and unique human beings thanks to my time as an educator – which I define as both my academic and athletic teaching.  If you are a student of mine THANK YOU! You have deeply touched my heart and transformed me as a human being.  I believe that we a...
